With a long list of hits that includes "Low Rider," "Why Can't We Be Friends," "Spill the Wine," and "The Cisco Kid," legendary funk band WAR has long been considered one of the most influential groups of the 1970s. They were also one of the most eclectic, freely melding soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae, rock influences, and socio-political commentary into a dance-friendly whole. Headed by singer-keyboardist and original founder Lonnie Jordan, WAR is still given to prolonged jamming during live performances, with a grooving interplay that places them in the top echelon of funk pop ensembles.

During the past four decades, WAR has released 19 albums and has achieved ten top 10 Billboard Pop and R&B singles. The band's songs have been used in national advertising campaigns (Nokia, Chevy, Miller Lite) major motion pictures and TV shows (Lethal Weapon, Boogie Nights, Friday, Gone in 60 Seconds, "The Simpsons," "Beverly Hills 90210," "My Name is Earl"), and even in space, where NASA beamed "Why Can't We Be Friends" to Soviet cosmonauts and U.S. astronauts in 1975.
